And While I'm Posting Ridiculous Things...

...media scholars - are any of you media scholars? - tell me what you think about this?

Clearly, I should not be grading finals and watching late night television. Honestly, AMC, who the hell is your after midnight audience?

I can't believe no one has bitten on this yet.

Um ... seems counter-intuitive, from a marketing standpoint. Isn't Trojan afraid that they'll loose some condom business if women discover (shocking news flash!!) that they don't require the penis for their pleasure?

I like the woman who praises the little bag the gaget comes with. 'Cuz that's what women look for in a vibrator: cute packaging.

I also find it interesting that this is the direction "her pleasure" (as a Trojan marketing device) is taking. Nearly everything about the way they are promoting this product suggests that it is intended for women's solo use--as opposed to something for women and their partners to use together. The ad features all women and, with the exception of one photo on the web site, all the people shown using the product are women. So I am with bitternsweet--that seems counter-intuitive.

Also, love that they chose to call it a "personal massager" instead of vibrator. As if you're going to give yourself or your partner a backrub with this thing!

I think the shift in the Trojan demographic implied is interesting - I wonder if the commercial is playing around the country? It seems like the threads of women taking charge of their own pleasure might be seen as threatening by some groups.

One of the things that intrigues me is the undercurrent of sex and food that I'm seeing now. There's this - where people are in a diner, having a cross-table conversation about vibrators - and there's the Quizno's commercial which is a bit more disturbing because it implies the poor cook is not just having relations with the Quizno's oven but that it might be abusive.
