No Time To Talk...

...but lordy, this term is flying by. A fifth of the way completed?

WOOOOOOOOSH!

And I'm suddenly very hopeful about this whole job thing. Who has tips for negotiation once an offer is - hopefully - made?

1. List your own priorities in advance of getting the offer, before you're blinded by emotion.

2. Take your time before a final decision, but make sure that you have some sort of contact with them at least every 24-48 hrs.

3. Show your wish list and your offer to someone you trust, and ask them to help you sort through, and pick out 3 or so things you want, figuring you'll get 2 of them.

4. Remember that some things may truly not be negotiable, especially if you're talking about a union school.

5. Always polite and professional, but remember that this is the one point where you actually have some leverage. Be strategic about how you use it.

6. If it's not in writing, it doesn't exist.

Wow sounds like things are going well. Congrats on getting this far. I can add nothing more than Notorious Ph.D. but yes, yes, and yes. I totally agree (especially with points 5 and 6)

Congratulations, and Notorious PhD is a genius. In this economy especially, go for as high a salary as you can get.

Thanks for the well-wishes and the good advice. Things are going well - there will be more in a post shortly about it (no doubt with more advice needed).
